EU Commends Armenia's Role in Promoting Peace
Among these efforts are Armenia’s initiatives to improve ties with Türkiye and its pursuit of a significant peace agreement with Azerbaijan.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa met with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Brussels.
The talks centered on regional affairs and the advancement of relations between the EU and Armenia.
Von der Leyen expressed strong approval of Armenia’s proposed peace treaty with Azerbaijan, describing it as “a seismic moment” for the area.
She remarked, “It brings decades of hostility to a close. I hope the treaty can be signed as soon as possible.”
During the meeting, Pashinyan reaffirmed Armenia’s dedication to democratic changes and its aspiration for deeper ties with the EU.
“We are working to have a deeper and broader partnership with Armenia, and we want to develop our relationship,” Costa emphasized.
In a collaborative declaration, EU leaders voiced their backing for Armenia’s sovereignty, the inviolability of its borders, and its democratic path.
They also applauded recent advancements toward easing visa restrictions and acknowledged Armenia’s recently enacted law that sets the foundation for the country’s integration into the European framework.
