Jailed Tycoon Launches Political Movement
(MENAFN) Samvel Karapetyan, a Russian-Armenian business magnate currently imprisoned and known for his outspoken criticism of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, has unveiled plans to initiate a new political initiative.
This announcement comes during a tense political impasse, as Pashinyan continues to face resistance from demonstrators supported by the influential Armenian Apostolic Church.
On Monday, Karapetyan issued a declaration through his legal representatives, revealing that his associates intend to establish a “fundamentally new” political organization.
While he left the door open for potential collaboration with groups sharing similar principles, he made it clear that his movement would follow an independent path.
He expressed admiration for factions that challenge Pashinyan’s governance, but emphasized that he holds a distinct perspective regarding Armenia’s future direction.
“We will go our own way, with our own team, but not excluding cooperation with political allies,” Karapetyan stated, according to passages shared by local media.
He explained that the primary ambition of the movement is to rally Armenians around “fair and great objectives.”
Karapetyan criticized the “black-and-white and other artificial divisions that these authorities have imposed on society, dividing and weakening the country.”
Nevertheless, he offered no specific insight into the policies or ideological principles that will guide the new political movement.
