US Embassy for Iran warns US citizens to leave nation
A virtual US diplomatic channel for Iran issued a security notice advising citizens to exit the country without delay, emphasizing that departures should be arranged independently and without expecting assistance from the US government. The alert stated, "Leave Iran now," and cautioned that official support would not be available.
For those unable to depart, the advisory recommended remaining indoors and seeking shelter in secure locations, noting, "If you cannot leave, find a secure location within your residence or another safe building."
The guidance also warned of persistent internet disruptions and encouraged Americans to prepare alternative communication methods. It further advised that, "if safe to do so, consider departing Iran by land to Armenia or Türkiye."
Special caution was directed at dual US-Iranian nationals. According to the advisory, such individuals are required to leave Iran using Iranian passports, as the Iranian authorities do not acknowledge dual citizenship and regard them solely as Iranian nationals. The notice warned that, "Showing a U.S. passport or demonstrating connections to the United States can be reason enough for Iranian authorities to detain someone."
At the same time, the US administration is reportedly considering a range of responses toward Iran amid escalating anti-government protests and a widening crackdown by Iranian authorities.
On Monday, US President Donald Trump announced the imposition of a 25% tariff on "any and all" countries that continue commercial dealings with Iran. The move came as demonstrations against the Iranian government continue to spread.
While Trump has repeatedly warned that the use of lethal force against protesters could trigger military action, he has also indicated openness to pursuing diplomatic engagement with Tehran.
According to reports, the president was briefed on several non-traditional options to pressure Iran beyond standard airstrikes. These measures were said to include cyber-related operations and psychological initiatives aimed at disrupting Iran’s command systems, internal communications, and state-controlled media networks.
